week 4

For CEO's and their organizations, avoiding complexity is not an option — the choice comes in how they respond to it. Will they allow complexity to become a stifling force that slows responsiveness, overwhelms employees and customers, or threatens profits?

2010 IBM Global CEO Study

How do you respond to these statements?
CEO is the chief executive officer of a company or organization. All the official duty comes under his shoulder in an organization. CEO is mainly responsible for success and the failure of the company. From start to operating, marketing, planning, financing, recruiting, firing, rules and regulations, making friendly environment and culture everything comes under his responsibility. Usually many organizations used to have the problem of IT complexity. CEO must play a role in solving this complexity.

IT complexity and it's branches

This week in our Fundamental and Technology class we covered the topic of IT complexity. Technical, organizational and societal are the three aspects of IT complexity.

1.1: IT complexity and its branches

On this Management IT complexity topic we did some research of HP (Hewlett Packard)
company one of the leading PC manufacturer since 2000. HP is the successful company till date. After the research we find out the reasons the company for its success in the sales of its P.C

Managing complexity is becoming critically important to the success of today's businesses.

Complexity has an intrinsic value, in many cases improving profitability.Customers are happy to pay for "good" complexity."Bad" complexity needlessly increases costs and put at risk profitability

How does it become the successful company???

HP’s teams have developed a five-step process that measures the costs and benefits of complexity. Identifying the cost area impacted by product line complexity, estimate complexity and its costs per unit in each area, cutoff margin threshold for SKUs,(stock keeping units) evaluate increment margin of each proposed SKUs and eliminate proposed SKUs  that do not exceed threshold.

HP developed an EXCEL-BASED ODEL showing the impacts of product  line changes on each of the cost categories that had identified.

HP's desktop PC division was able to eliminate several unattractive SKUs from its product portfolio and change its processes for evaluating proposed products in the future. Armed with this information, the team had clearer guidelines on when to create new SKUs, and is now enforcing stricter minimum quantities with retail accounts. We estimated that the financial impact from this application to North America desktop PCs was on the order of $4 million per year.

Which application system has the best user centered design?
Application is the technological programme which we normally use in our daily life for example Microsoft word, Microsoft outlook, face-book, twitter, Hotmail, yahoo, hi-5 and many more. The applications is dynamic, programmer always upgrade their applications to make it better than others application. Programmers always change the function and design of the application. From those applications they earn huge name and fame.
For example, Facebook made Mark Zukenberg one of the successful idols. He made and broadcast his application in 2004, now in the present day he have over 1 billion of active users.
In my opinion the easiest application to use is Facebook. Because of that the users are increasing dramatically as compared to others. In this application the design is not so complicated. It will give the option one by one, and it’s in very simple language. The architecture of this application is quite easy as compared to other application. It provides multilingual options so, users can use in any language as they prefer. This application is written in C++ form.
There are thousands of application which we can see these days, but because of the simplicity, and good architecture and design, the users of this particular application users growing steadily.

What is computer science ??????
It is the scientific and practical approach to computation and its applications. A computer scientist specializes in the theory of computation and the design of computational systems. Computer Science (as a field) is concerned with developing new ideas around the use and design of computing systems, and with the mathematical concepts of computation and information. Computer Science is the mother of all computational disciplines. “Computer Science” is the mixture and application of “Applied Mathematics”, “Electrical Engineering“, and “Complexity Theory/Algorithms” to understand and/or model information. In other words, the “field of computation”.
What is IT ??????
The abbreviation of the IT is Information and Technology.
“Information Technology” is the mixture and application of “Programming”, “Hardware Administration”, “Software Administration”, “Networking“, “Network Security” and “Technical Support”. In other words, the “management of computers”.

“Most CS people laugh at MIS/IT people,”
and “MIS/IT people make more money and manage the CS folks.”
It’s quite common that, C.S people laugh at the IT people because the C.S people invent the new software, spend years of research find out the new technology. From 1st generation computer to the third generation computer, form a pager to mobile phone and from simple mobile phone to smart phone, all these are invention of the C.S people, so they laugh at the IT and MIS people. But from the same programme found by the C.S people, IT/MIS people makes lot of money through repairing and finding out the way to use those software’s and the programmes.
In simple word we can say that, C.S invent the new programme and IT people keep maintain it until new programme invented. They are like each other’s reciprocal.

Short story about me and my computer J
if i don't have the internet????
When I was in school level, I used to see laptops and computers only in the newspaper and television. Although, I don’t know anything about hardware, software, internet, hard-disk and so on but still I know the importance of them in the field of education and carrier development because I used to read about it in magazines and newspapers. I used to dream about having them. Finally dreams comes true, after I finish my school, my parents bought me a Pentium IV computer.
How computer does helps to a student?
After I got the computer, I find myself so easy doing assignments. Moreover we had to do many projects, research and survey because of the computers it made my way easy. If any difficulties I used to research in Google find out many related research and used to take some ideas from them.
Entire student who have the facility of the computers used it, for doing any assignments or task because it helps a lot in studying. If got bored of research and study then can have some entertain through either listening music or watching movies or internet surfing.
Can I live without internet connection for a day, a week, month, and a year?
Internet is the thing which makes the computer alive. Surfing internet is like drug addiction; once it became habitual it’s hard to live without it.
The internet has become one of the most powerful resources in the world. People do so many things online every day. People uses internet to pay bills, conduct research, chat with friends, watch videos, download music, and express themselves freely.
Questions may knock or head; can people live without the internet? Obviously most people cannot who are used to use. It has become such a fundamental part of the people’s daily life.

According to Go Bare research out of the 1,000 Australians surveyed, 60% said the one thing they couldn't live without is the internet, followed closely by their wallet at 53%, their mobile phone at 37% and chocolate at 24%.
A person who surf internet more than 4 hrs in a day is called inter addict, and obviously am one of them. Being IT students I have to spend more time in doing programming and the research for assignments. Thus might me I can’t live without internet, but it doesn’t mean I will die without internet. Might me in the time of weekends I can forget my computer and laptop, but in the weekdays I can’t.                                                                                            See you again

People grow old and older, but because of new technologies our society and place are emerging young, smart and advanced.
“The vision of laptop per child, what is your opinion on this”
The idea may vary from one person to another one. For me as being one of the IT graduate obviously I will stand on the positive side of the argument. Although there are many drawbacks of this, but still if possible the education of the computer must be forwarded either from the government or the school administration from the school level. There might be the questions emerges on the peoples mind WHY? Because today’s world is the competitive world, each and every step there is competitions even for the minor thing.  The world globalizing, for example we can see originally started Japanese restaurant Sushi in U.S, whereas Mc Donald in China, Petronas Malaysian brand car is running on the road of Nepal, and many more. People are being brighter and smarter day by day only the reason is they are engaged with the laptop and get knowledge about the globe easily.
Thus I think either laptop or computer in the present context it’s obvious to provide one per child one, to develop their thinking and learning style.

week 1

How has the development of IT influenced the common traditions of a society?

Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray invented the telephone in 1876. After the inventions of telephone from early models the technology had stepped a head dramatically and the today’s digital cell phones and pagers are the effects of it. After the development of this technology it became easy to contact anyone from anywhere in this world within a second.
Now let’s imagine the society before the invention of the telephone. To send any message or information people used to use either post office or send messages through person.  Which was not only unreliable, also take lots of time. Although the message was send to the receiver, getting feedback was not sure and if get also it used to take more time and it was really hard.
After the invention of the telephone the tradition of the society had been drastically changed. In present days, everyone uses mobile phone, or smart phones. Technology had changed the life of the people.  They can contact anyone within whist, and can know and see the world in their palm, through the help of the technology on the field of the phones. This is only one example of the development of the technology which influenced the common traditions of a society.
People use to grow old and older, but because of to the technology our society and place are developing young and smart.
